How do you put together a flat quote?
We look at the size of your place, what is in it, the stairs or elevators on both ends, and how far the truck has to go. From that we write one flat number that covers the crew, the truck, and the blankets and dollies. You see it before you commit, and it does not move unless you add a stop or a roomful of boxes we did not count.
What does a local Bridgeport move cost by the hour?
A two-mover crew and truck runs $155 an hour, with blankets, dollies, and the basic tools already in that rate. If you want it faster, a three-mover crew is $215 an hour. Most folks pick the flat rate so there are no surprises, but the hourly option is there for small or odd jobs.
Is there a deposit to hold my date?
Yes, $150 locks your spot on the calendar, and it comes straight off your final bill. That keeps the truck and crew reserved for you, which matters at the start and end of the month when everybody in Fairfield County is moving at once.
Are you a licensed moving company?
Yes. New Chapter is a fully licensed and insured local moving company in Bridgeport with our own trucks and uniformed crews. We hold a Connecticut Household-Goods Carrier Certificate through CTDOT plus US DOT and MC authority on file for interstate work, and we renew both on schedule.
What happens if a Nor'easter hits on my moving day?
Bridgeport winters mean slush, road salt, and ice off the Sound, so we watch the forecast and call you the day before if a coastal storm is rolling in. We can shift the load earlier, wrap everything against the wet, or move you a day either way, whatever keeps your stuff dry and the truck off icy I-95.
Is there anything your crew will not load?
We cannot take hazardous stuff: propane tanks, gasoline, paint thinner, ammunition, or anything that can catch or leak in a closed truck. Live plants do not travel well over a long haul either, so we usually ask you to carry those yourself. Everything else, from the couch to the gun safe, is fair game.
Can you handle a certificate of insurance for a downtown high-rise?
Absolutely. A lot of the Lafayette Blvd and Downtown towers want a COI on file before they will let movers up the freight elevator. Send us the building's requirements when you book and Carmen has the certificate over to management well before your date.
For a long haul, are your own guys on both ends?
Yes. The crew that packs your place in Bridgeport is the crew that unloads it in Boston, Philly, or DC. We drive our own truck the whole route and never hand your boxes off to another company partway. One team, start to delivery.
Do you move pianos?
We do, every week. Uprights, baby grands, even the slate pool table in the basement: our crew has the straps, the board, and the practice to get them down a tight Black Rock staircase. Specialty items like that start at $379 on top of the move.
What if my closing dates do not line up?
It happens all the time around here. You are out of the old place before the new one is ready. We hold your things in short-term storage and bring them over when the keys finally land, so you are not paying for a rushed double move or stacking boxes in a relative's garage.
Can you handle a triple-decker or a fourth-floor walk-up?
That is half of what we do in the North End and Black Rock. Tight staircases, no elevator, a turn at the landing that nothing should fit through — we have moved it. Tell us the floor and whether there is an elevator when you book so we send the right crew size.
What happens if I have to cancel or push the date?
Give us a heads-up at least 48 hours out and your $150 deposit moves to a new date with no fuss. Life happens, closings slip, and we get it. We just ask for the call early so we can give that truck slot to another family who needs it.
